Business Accounting Software

Business accounting software is software that assists businesses and private individuals with their financial recording needs. The software keeps track of accounting transactions that in the past were required to be recorded manually in a ledger. Once the information is recorded by the business accounting software, the software is capable of performing functions such as running reports, analyzing expenditures, computing cost of goods sold, and more. All of these functions were required to be completed manually before the introduction of business accounting software.

Typical business accounting software packages record and process financial transactions and can handle functions such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, profit and loss statements, and in some instances, payroll.

Business accounting software is part database, in that it stores the detailed financial transactions that take place in your business, and part CPA, because most software packages are powerful enough and intuitive enough to run the majority of the reports you need to have a snapshot of the financial health of your business.

Business accounting software can be created specifically by a company to meet its needs but is most often provided by an outside source. Most business accounting software on the market today typically includes the ability to handle AR, AP, general ledger functions, billing, purchase orders, sales orders, and inventory control.
